Deep Clean Hits the Dance Floor

A retired living village is a busy place for floors. It's a commercial environment where the floors are subjected to heavy use day in and day out, particularly in busy common areas like recreation rooms. This project by Bona Certified Contractors Sap & Grain in NSW shows how they revived the tired floors in this over 55s living facility in Newcastle with the Bona Deep Clean system and Bona PowerScrubber 2.0.

The existing Engineered Timber flooring and Vinyl Plank flooring across two different levels of the main community centre were badly worn, however were still in constant use hosting many events including spirited Ballroom Dancing. As Dom Slade from Sap and Grain comments "The engineered floor could have done with a resand but the client couldn't afford the disruption as it was a main Rec area of the facility and residents needed constant access to it every day. So when we offered the option of a deep clean solution as a quick alternative to return the lustre to the floors this was welcomed".

A total floor area of about 240sqm was Deep Cleaned, including both upstairs and downstairs rooms across engineered timber and direct stick vinyl plank surfaces, with some initial floor repairs also required before the deep clean could take place. Bona's Deep Clean Solution was used in the PowerScrubber, which proved equally effective on both the engineered and vinyl surfaces. Looking at the images below the results are pretty clear, the visual difference is obvious before and after cleaning. Dom comments that the client was amazed at the instant effect, even after just one pass.

The floors were completed in a day and put back into immediate use, with Dom and the guys being told they needed to vacate one area in time for a very important card game planned for that afternoon. Logistics were always a key part of this job and getting in and out quickly was important, a main reason the client chose to deep clean instead of a total resand, or doing nothing and leaving the floors to further deteriorate.

The co-ordination to avoid disruption required getting individual approvals from residents, which Dom and the team needed to obtain themselves. This would have been almost impossible to achieve with the added disruption of sanding and refinishing.

Based on the results of the Deep Clean, another common area in a different part of the Facility has been booked in for Deep Cleaning as well, and in addition the client has locked in a regular cleaning schedule to maintain the pristine appearance of the floors and to further extend their lifespan.
